Death, Grieving, Young Love, Nostalgia
Oh boy. Here we are. Three years after Lauren, my first love, suddenly passed away. Three years after I wrote and recorded this song. I didn’t want to release it then because there were other people grieving and this song is very much about myself and my/our experience of young love. And now, writing these words, the sadness is still so raw and present and I want to cry and smoke as many cigarettes as possible and walk and walk far, far away.
But truly, this song and even these feelings are a tribute to the late and ever-brilliant Lauren Hanley and the sweet love that we once shared. And how tender and huge-feeling that love is. And how brave and stupid and careless and sloppy and reckless… but beautiful, and romantic, and full of indellible colors that are so deeply impressed into your psyche that they can never fade. Colors that maybe we don’t let ourselves see too many more times because they are so very blinding.
"And I miss you then
And I miss me too
But most of all I miss young love
When the world was new”
Listen and enjoy. I wrote, recorded, and mixed it. Joseph DeJarnette mastered it. It’s on all the streaming services and
briandolphinandyou.bandcamp.com. If you want to support my songs and those I produce for other people, you can always become a patron (
patreon.com/dolphinandyou) and I will be ever grateful and keep on keeping on. Feel free also to share the song.
I am about to release a whole compilation of collaborative original songs - yours and mine - as part of “Dolphin & You”, but this one just had to get out the door because it is three years later.
And the song itself wanted out. And I needed it out of me too.
Hopefully it helps you to feel and deal, just like it helped me.
Enjoy and stay fresh and feeling and loving.
